High strength bolts are currently one of the widely used structural fasteners, with the following advantages and disadvantages:
advantage:
1. High strength: High strength bolts are generally made of high-strength steel or alloy steel, which has a much higher strength than ordinary bolts. Therefore, during use, high-strength bolts can withstand greater loads and shear forces, and have good seismic and wind resistance capabilities.
2. Strong durability: High strength bolts have high machining accuracy, flat surfaces, and small grains, therefore their fatigue and corrosion resistance are higher than ordinary bolts. Reduce the number of repairs during prolonged use.
3. Easy installation: High strength bolts can be fixed with pliers/wrenches without the need for special tools, simplifying installation steps and saving installation time.
4. Long service life: Due to the excellent quality of high-strength bolt material, reliable installation method, long service life, and good economy.
Disadvantages:
1. High cost: Due to the high requirements for high-strength bolt materials and production processes, the price is generally higher. At the same time, a large amount of cost investment is also required in use, maintenance, and repair.
2. High attention should be paid to safety: When using high-strength bolts, improper installation or failure may lead to serious and catastrophic consequences. Therefore, the user and workers must operate according to the installation specifications of high-strength bolts to enhance safety awareness.
3. Poor deformation performance: In high temperature and humid environments, the deformation performance of materials is poor, and there may be a decrease in tensile strength or failure. Therefore, multiple factors need to be considered when selecting materials.
4. Strict requirements for the degree of thread teeth: The degree of thread teeth in high-strength bolts is extremely high, and even minor errors may lead to the collapse of the entire system. At the same time, due to the special properties of the materials used for high-strength bolts, the clamping force is also strong, making it difficult to disassemble and cannot be replaced arbitrarily.
